The Secret Of How To Choose A Water Purifier.

If we want to clean up the tap water for direct drinking, its mainly divided into two stages:

First:  Remove dirt, sediment, germs.

Second:  Remove chlorine, odor, pigment.

First of all, the basic filter element of any water purifier is to remove dirt and sediment, including: rust, dirt, sand, etc.

These dirt are mainly from the rusty water pipes buried in the grounds of Penang for many years, and the tap water of some areas in Penang are provided by the Sungai Kedah.

For First stage, the most basic filter that we use to remove the precipitate is PP filter, mostly people put on their water meter outside from their house, as the picture below:

PP Filter

The first common of PP filter is 5 micron and 1 micron, the more smaller of the micron, the more cleaner of the water.

However, with the improvement of people life today, the Ceramic filter with 0.5 micron (0.3-0.9, median 0.5) is the most important requirement for us to use it for our direct drinking.

It can filter out 99% of pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus and mold in the water, as well as rust, red worm and various aerosols.  (You can Google it if you would like to know more about ceramic filter, because this article are not focus on teaching you the knowledge of  ceramic filter.)

Various types of Ceramic filter:

For Second stage, we are using Pre Carbon filter (activated carbon), which mainly removes chlorine, odor and pigment in water.

(If you would like to know more about activated carbon, can Google it.)

Actived Carbon:

Carbon

The Water Authority will chlorinate our tap water before it delivered to our house, and then the remaining chlorine in the water can prevent our home's water pipes and reservoirs from breeding bacteria or algae.

I have seen a lot of customers who don't know about the function of activated carbon, and they still purposely put the carbon on their housing water meter there. And also some unprofessional seller put the activated carbon into the outdoor sand filter, which causes the house's water pipes have spawned a lot of bacteria, and the reservoir has been producing moss, and more serious case can lead to bacterial infection in the wound!

You have to remember that activated carbon is used for drinking filter or some sensitive skin customers who allergies to chlorine , mainly use for showering.

Basically after using the two filters as I stated above, the tap water is safely for drinking. However, you can also add one more activated carbon.

Carbon has divided as pre-activated carbon and post-activated carbon, which is mainly used to improve the taste of the water. But if you have a limited space, then one ceramic filter with a high quality activated carbon filter is enough for you and your family.

There are a lot of water's names used by many water purifier sellers, started from early energy water, life water, magnetized water until today's alkaline water, ionized water and hydrogen-rich water. However, no matter what's the name use for label the water, the first two to three filters are same as what I said above, all are under the same two stages.

Whether they are using 2 in 1, 3 in 1, or 4 in 1 filters, expensive or affordable price, they are all the same.

From now, please learn don't to be blindly thinking that the more filters inside a water purifier is the best, you need to learn to know what's the main system that using in a water purifier.

Even if you use100 PP filter with 5 micron, also not cleaner than 1 ceramic filter with 0.5 micron (or 0.01 Membrane).

As the simple concept what I said above, to keep it in you mind, then try to think about the water purifier that you are using now, or other branded water purifier selling on the market, are they really worth for the price ? One more question for you, how much do you think for a water filter's selling price (whether it is for outdoor or indoor)?

Let me tell you, the price of a PP filter ( 1 micron to 5 micron) is around RM2 to RM10.

So will you spend three or five hundred dollars to buy a 5 micron PP filter? Well, this is depend on you, if you think this is worth for the price then go ahead, because there are much more expensive PP filter which is selling for around two thousand dollar in the market.

Other than that, the price of ceramic filter is around RM20-RM150, and still have other high quality membrane filter with smaller micron (0.01 mircon), the selling price is around RM150-RM250.

Besides, the selling price of activated carbon is around RM10 to RM300, all depend on the quality.

So now you might be wonder why there are a lot of water purifiers selling for around RM3000 above? But they are just using the simple 2-3 filters only? Then why must be so pricey?

The reason is because those companies still adding some other elements to their product like marketing strategies or advertising skills, so that the water purifier can sell until RM3000 above.

Anyway, I will stop my words here. In the next article, I will tell you about "How to match a completed full set with high quality water purification system?"
